WHERE IN THE WORLD
ABACO, THE BAHAMAS
The Delphi Club on Abaco is a small luxury hotel and fishing lodge in an idyllic wilderness location. Designed in the style of an 18th century colonial plantation house, with large wrap-around verandahs, the 8-bedroom hotel stands on a high ridge to catch the sea breezes and panoramic ocean views. It’s a romantic getaway, a luxury bonefish resort and a birder’s paradise all rolled into one.
THE REASON WHY
The Delphi Club is owned and run by the father of one of my closest friends and I was lucky enough to escape the miserable London weather in November and jet off to this beautiful spot on Abaco island. Not an especially keen fisherwoman, I had envisaged a week lying on the beach and topping up the tan however after one day’s fishing I was hooked (excuse the pun!) and had the most amazing ten days in this elusive island haven.
THE STAR DUST
The atmosphere is more akin to a private country house and every evening all the guests gather for drinks and canapés before sitting down at the dining room table for dinner. The food was exquisite and in all honesty surprising given the isolated nature of the lodge however each meal was different and simply delicious. But, the ultimate stardust for me, was the wrap around verandah with panoramic views of the bay and the pristine woodlands surrounding the lodge. Each afternoon I would take my book up to the swing seat, the lovely Chantrelle would (read my mind and without my asking) bring me afternoon tea and I would just sit and enjoy the view – truly dreamy!
THE WORLD SAID
"When can I come back?!"
“The Delphi Club oozes charm, and totally characterises Peter, who set up the multi-award winning Delphi Lodge in Ireland…. panoramic views, glorious sunshine, G&T’s at sunset – pretty heavenly right?!”
